Job Description: Key Responsibilities
• Supports the Organisation’s Mission, Principles and Practices
• Provides a comprehensive counselling programme which promotes personal, social, emotional/mental health and academic development for all students through proactive learning activities and other services
• Collaborates with the school’s Child Protection Team to ensure school practices are in accordance with the expectations of the Child Protection Policy
• Participates in the review and evaluation of policies and procedures for the physical, emotional and mental health of students to ensure they are effective
• Reviews new student records to identify students who need support
• Ensures colleagues are familiar with the student referral process
• Carries out classroom observation and scrutiny of work when required to identify and monitor students in need of support
• Participates in Student Support Team meetings to advocate for students and to offer professional advice
• Supports parents in gaining access to information on their child’s needs and offers guidance on and referrals to external agencies
• Liaises with external agencies to ensure the school is providing appropriate support for the students
• Writes and implements Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) as required in consultation with SSS Team members, outside agencies, teachers, students and parents
• Writes and maintains reports on students requiring support
• Ensures all confidential information is kept in a safe and secure manner
• Provides professional guidance to colleagues, through written advice, meetings or training, to promote appropriate learning programmes for students who require additional support as well as supporting teachers.
• Provides information sessions or workshops on student support for colleagues and parents
• Provides prevention, intervention and crisis response services to students, their families and other stakeholders
• Manages and evaluates intervention programmes throughout the year
• Provides in-class and/or withdrawal (one to one or group) support for students requiring counselling/play therapy support
• Provides training and support colleagues in the delivery of transition programmes and activities
• Liaises with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning for transferring students who require additional support
• Manages appropriate resources to ensure they are used efficiently, effectively and safely
Job Requirements: • Holds the minimum requirement of a Bachelor Degree plus relevant teaching and counselling/play therapy credentials
• Shows evidence of active participation in continuing professional development
• Has a minimum of 2 years full-time teaching/counselling in an Early Childhood school setting
• Has experience working with students with diverse needs in an Early Childhood school setting
• Has a positive, energetic, enthusiastic and solution focused outlook
• Has a deep understanding of highly effective teaching and learning practices
• Has significant depth, breadth of knowledge, skills and understanding of their specific discipline and also a passion that inspires students to achieve at the highest level and colleagues to learn more
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and understands the value of generating positive professional relationships and partnerships with colleagues, students, parents/families and the wider school community
• Can work in a highly collaborative learning and organisational culture which values a team approach when planning and providing learning experiences which are engaging, challenging, supportive and inclusive
• Has knowledge of child developmental milestones and is able to apply to individual support
• Empowers students to take ownership of their learning
• Can work closely with teachers ensuring that suitably differentiated material and learning pathways are provided to challenge all students regardless of ability
• Embraces innovative change in pedagogy
• Has a commitment to operate successfully in a bilingual teaching environment in which important Chinese and Western cultural characteristics are understood and respected. Being trilingual with Cantonese, Mandarin and English is preferably.
• Models the skills and attitudes of a global citizen by seeking to understand and respond positively to the cultural differences in value systems and societal norms of all members of our school community
• Has the ability to make good use of technology as a learning resource and for professional practice
• Supports and applies all school policies consistently
• Consults with the School Leadership Team (SLT) and/or Child Protection Team as appropriate and necessary in matters affecting the welfare and safeguarding of students
• Contributes to the school’s enrichment programmes and to the wider school development and growth
