Job Description: The IGCSE Coordinator oversees the activities of students and teachers in three broad areas – classroom practice, administra¬tion and, in concert with the individual Heads of Department, the curriculum. Working closely and in coordination with Heads of Departments, the IGCSE Coordinator leads the teaching team associated with the General Certificate of Secondary Education program from Year 10 through Year 11. The IGCSE Coordinator meets with parents, interprets and records student progress, informs parents and/or guardians about students’ strengths and weaknesses, and develops a learning improvement plan for each student where necessary. The IGCSE Coordinator liaises closely with the Secondary Coordinator and Co-principals, and works closely with Heads of Department and staff, to ensure the programme is delivered in accord¬ance with the guidelines laid down by the Cambridge offices for IGCSE.

Duties:
The IGCSE Coordinator at Yew Chung International School of Shanghai is responsible for the effective administration of all matters pertaining to the role of the school as a Cambridge International Centre. The Coordinator carries out the duties delegated by the Head of the Centre, the Co-Principals.

A. Serve as School-CIE liaison officer via email, fax and phone to
• Disseminate information to administration, candidates and faculty as appropriate
• Act as mentor and coach for IGCSE programme teachers regarding curriculum information and requirements
• Provide information on available resources
• Provide information on online training opportunities and professional development workshops or conferences to staff
• Assist in the process of staff training (registration and application)
• Attend meetings as appropriate

B. Serve as the school-community liaison to keep parents informed of
• The nature of the IGCSE programme
• Upcoming Checkpoint and IGCSE examinations
• Fees payable where applicable
• Results from examinations

C. Liaise with the Admissions Division to
• Assist with the admissions of student into Years 10 and 11
• Give guidance to such students on their subject selection
• Ensure that new students are appropriately placed in subjects and subject options

D. Liaise with the Marketing Division to ensure the publicity of IGCSE matters, including overviews, new syllabuses and results

E. Serve as Examination Officer to
• Ensure that CIE Handbook for Centers rules and regulations are followed
• Enter students as candidates for CIE IGCSE and Checkpoint examinations according to the procedures outlines in the Administrative Guide for Centers and Procedures for the Submission of Entries
• Receive and securely store examinations received from CIE
• Arrange all examination venues
• Invigilate examinations and train others to invigilate examinations according to the CIE rules and regulations
• Maintain the Cameo database of IGCSE and Checkpoint candidate information, including predicted entry numbers, entries, withdrawals, amendments, internal assessments and forecast grades
• Make any applications for Special Arrangements or Special Consideration
• Return completed examination scripts and attendance registers to CIE
• Ensure all candidates receive their result documentation in a timely fashion
• Make requests of CIE on behalf of candidates in cases of result enquiries
F. Working closely with the Co-Principals, Secondary Coordinator, school counselor, serve as Key Stage 4 pastoral coordinator for such issues as
• Lead the Year 10 & 11 morning assembly each week
• Students performing below expectations
• Instigating Quick Reviews and follow-up actions as needed, including the Maintenance of Academic Standards process
• Managing changes of subject
• Poor behavior
• Non-attendance
• Improving study skills, work habits and examination techniques
• Conflicts between students and issues such as bullying and harassment

G. Liaise with the Accounts Department to
• Ensure the effective payment of all CIE fees
• Collect any moneys from students or parents
• Serve as Teacher Support Coordinator with regard to use of the CIE Teacher Support website, ensuring
• All relevant staff have access to the resources on the site
• Staff logins are maintained

H. Create, submit and administer an annual budget covering all aspects of the Checkpoint and IGCSE examination process and teacher training

I. Plan for, prepare, order and/or organize for printing of any examination materials required for Mock, Checkpoint or IGCSE Examinations

J. Manage the Year 9 Subject Selection process including the following
• Prepare, have published and distribute the IGCSE Subject Selection booklet
• Outline the selection process to all Year 9 classes
• Arrange and participate in the IGCSE Subject Selection evening for parents
• Distribute and explain the subject selection form
• Collect the form and coordinate the entry of data with the school timetable
• Further details of the responsibilities of the Head of Centre can be found on pages 9, 10 and 12 to 21 of the Handbook for Centers 2010, section 1.2 and 1.3.

K. Other duties as assigned by the Co-Principals and Secondary Coordinator.

Skills/qualifications:
• Native English speaker
• Holder of Bachelor Degree in relevant subject with teaching certificate or license
• Minimum 3 years of working with, and teaching within, the IGCSE programme, with experience working with diverse student and staff bodies

• Excellent communication skills and a public presence which engenders respect and trust from students and parents is a must
• Detail-oriented person with excellent time management and editing skills
• Have a working knowledge of the university and college application procedures of European, North American, and Asian school systems
• Possess a vision of the “big picture” of the school and the need for all departments to work together for the good of the students
• Advanced competencies in the use of Moodle and PowerSchool is a plus
• Advanced skills in Mandarin Chinese is a plus
