Job Description: The Learning Support Department (LSD) consists of specialists from EAL, SEN and counseling working together to enrich the education of our students. While there will be a focus on team work between the members of this department, each specialist will also have responsibilities specific to their specialization.

A. EAL Specialist
Duties:
• Assess students on entry and recommend placement into English courses.
• Provide in-class and/or withdrawal support for referred EAL student(s).
• Provide in-class and/or curriculum development support for staff.
• Assist with modification of assessments where appropriate.
• Provide examination assistance for referred EAL students where needed.
• Develop whole staff EAL professional development programmes.
• Oversee the running of the SPP classes (years 7 and 8).
• Assist with the creation of IEPs.
• Administer informal language assessments to identify language problems.
• Liaise with parents on behalf of teachers about academic progress.
• Provide learning strategies and available learning resources for students.
• Perform classroom observation when required to identify and observe EAL students.

B. School Counselor
Duties:
The school counselor will work with the LSD when there is significant overlap of students.
• Emotional counseling support for students, their families and staff.
• Advice and strategies for use by students, their families and staff in and out of the classroom.
• Social skills training.
• Assist with the creation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

C. SEN Specialist
Duties:
• Review new student records for SEN concerns.
• Provide in-class and/or withdrawal support for referred SEN student(s).
• Provide in-class or curriculum development support for staff.
• Assist with modification of assessments where appropriate.
• Provide examination assistance for referred SEN students where needed.
• Develop whole staff SEN professional development programmes.
• Assist with the creation of IEPs.
• Administer informal assessments for identifying learning needs.
• Liaise with parents on behalf of teachers about academic progress.
• Provide learning strategies and available learning resources for students.
• Perform classroom observation when required to identify and observe SEN students.

Skills/qualifications:
• Native English speaker
• Holder of Bachelor Degree with relevant credentials in Counseling, Special Education or related education field
• Minimum 2 years of full-time teaching in a school setting
• Have experience teaching English as a second language, working with individuals with special needs or behavioral challenges in a school setting
