Student Support Coordinator (ECE)
The Student Support Coordinator is not only responsible for the leadership of the ECE Team but is also expected to be an operational team member as a School Counsellor or as a Student Support Facilitator.
Professional Duties and Role Accountability.
The Head of the Student Support Coordinator (ECE) is responsible for:
1. General Operations and Future Development of Student Support Services
• Promotes an approach to student support services which is aligned to the Organisation’s Mission, Principles and Practices
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of common approaches, policies, programmes and research relating to student support services
• Contributes to the ECE Leadership Team and Campus Leadership Team planning and decision-making by offering a strategic overview of the student support services in the ECE
• Acts as a positive role model for staff and students by taking responsibility for the continuous improvement of student support services within the context of the school
• Adheres to and actively promotes school policies and procedures
• Shares responsibility and accountability for ensuring high standards and the provision of quality services to the school community.

2. Teaching and Learning
• Supports admissions and teaching staff in the identification of the specific needs of students
• Provides leadership in developing comprehensive programmes for students who need support
• Promotes effective teaching, learning and assessment processes which cater for the needs of all students in the school
• Analyses student assessment data (individual, year group, section) in collaboration with members of the support team and other relevant personnel, to provide feedback in order to inform and improve student learning.
3. Leading and Managing Staff
• Provides active leadership for all those involved in teaching students who require support services:
 In collaboration with the ECE Leadership Team, helping to ensure the transition of new staff members is a positive and valuable experience in order to prepare for their roles and responsibilities
 Demonstrating a collaborative leadership style which generates trust with all relevant personnel
 Modelling best practice in the implementation of programmes/curriculum initiatives
 Mentoring and coaching the members of the support team and mainstream teachers and facilitating peer learning opportunities
 Assisting with staff appraisals/performance management as assigned by the Vice Principal and ECE Coordinators
 Sharing of relevant information with all teaching staff
 Helping to run effective and positive teams by inspiring and motivating students and staff
 Encouraging all staff to be informed about current policies and practices in inclusion by leading in Professional Development in Student Support.
4. Deployment of Staff and Resources
• Ensures fair and effective operations of the departmental staff
• Maintains the Support Register of students and shares up-dates with the CLT
• Manages and evaluates intervention programmes
• Ensures the day-to-day coordination of student support services in the ECE
• Identifies appropriate resources and ensures they are used efficiently, effectively and safely.
5. Strengthening Community
• Promotes a professional, caring and supportive learning atmosphere within the school
• Works collaboratively at both strategic and operational levels with the Primary Coordinators, EAL Coordinator and Head of Student Support (PRI/SEC)
• Communicates effectively and works closely with parents in all aspects of the provision of services to students within the department.
• Supports parents in gaining access to information about external agencies which can formally assess their child’s needs

• Liaises with external agencies to ensure maximum support and continuity of provision for students
• Coordinates, writes, reviews and up-dates the provision of Individual Education Plans in collaboration with outside agencies, members of the Student Support Department, relevant mainstream teachers and teaching assistants
• Supports the transition of:
 new students to the school who will require support
 students receiving support who are moving between sections of the school (to PRI)
 students who are receiving support who are leaving the school
 students who are receiving support whose friends are leaving the school
• Liaises with feeder schools or with subsequent schools to share relevant information in order for the continuity of support provision for students.
Professional Development:
• Is a reflective learner who takes responsibility for professional development and progression (taking into account the school’s priorities, their own professional needs and which support students’ learning), making full use of the opportunities and training provided by the school
• Reviews, promotes and implements enhanced practices by research into best practices and by seeking and using regular feedback from the CLT, colleagues, parents and students (including alumni data as necessary) for ongoing improvement.

Appraisal:
• There will be an annual review. Performance will be measured against the skills and responsibilities, as well as the qualities listed above.
• Specific targets will be negotiated annually as part of performance management.
• These duties may be amended to meet the changing demands of the school at the discretion of the CLT.

Other Duties:
• The Student Support Coordinator will participate in the ECE Leadership Team and Campus Leadership Team (CLT)
• The Student Support Coordinator will take on extra responsibilities as assigned by the ECE Coordinators
• The Student Support Coordinator will take on the role of ECE Coordinator when required helping effectively with all operational, budgeting and record keeping requirements as requested by the Vice Principal and ECE Coordinators
