Job Description: Major Responsibilities:

Have knowledge and understanding of:
• Have a detailed knowledge of the relevant aspects of YCIS Curriculum Framework, IGCSE and/or IB syllabi in the relevant subjects
• Have a secure knowledge and understanding of a subject(s). Understand progression in their specialist subject(s), including before their specialist age range.
• All secondary school curriculum and assessment guidelines.

Planning and setting expectations:
• Plan courses and lessons individually and in collaboration with other teachers if necessary, so that all aspects of the syllabus are covered appropriately.
• Submit long and medium-term plans regularly for review and feedback by Head of Department
• Identify clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences appropriate to the subject matter and the pupils being taught.
• Set appropriate and demanding expectations for students’ learning and motivation. Set clear targets for student learning, building on prior attainment and experiences.
• Identify students who have special educational needs and are gifted and talented, and know where to get assistance in order to give positive and targeted support. Where applicable, implement and keep records on Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Teaching and managing pupil learning:
• Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groups and individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained, and best use is made of teaching time.
• Use teaching methods which keep students engaged, including stimulating students’ intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response, clear presentation and good use of resources.
• Set high expectations for behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships.
• Accept that in a school, all teachers are collectively responsible for the safety and good conduct of all students at all times, both when they are authorized to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorized school activities outside school.
• Embed IB approaches to learning and IB learner profile attributes explicitly in teaching of all classes in secondary school
• Prepare students for external examinations, according to the school curriculum

Assessment and evaluation:
• Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this to inform future teaching.
• Mark and monitor pupils’ class and homework providing constructive oral and written feedback, setting targets for students’ progress, and reviewing progress towards these targets regularly
• Maintain regular records in PowerSchool Pro of students’ assessment grades and feedback, and review these regularly with students and Head of Department, following the school’s assessment policy
• When applicable, understand the demands expected of students in relation to the YCIS Framework, IGCSE and IBDP curricula.

Relations with parents and wider community:
• Know how to prepare and present informative reports to parents.
• Communicate and consult with parents.
• Recognise that learning takes place outside the school context and provide opportunities to develop students’ understanding by relating their learning to real and work-related examples, as well as planning and conducting learning activities outside the school.
• Understand the need to liaise with agencies outside school.

Managing own performance and development:
• Understand the need to take responsibility for their own professional development and to keep up to date with research and developments in pedagogy and in the subjects they teach.
• Understand their professional responsibilities in relation to school policies, guidelines and practices.
• Play a positive part in all meetings, discussions and working parties, to be ready to contribute knowledge and experience, to take part in and support the decisions made, and to maintain confidentiality where required.
• Complete and hand-in on time all requested forecasts of work, lesson plans, report cards, records and assessments.
• Set a good example to the students they teach in their presentation and their personal conduct.
• Evaluate their own teaching critically and use this to improve their effectiveness.
• Participate in QFLT staff appraisal and use this to agree future professional development goals.


Managing and developing staff and other adults:
• Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues, such as, co-teachers, specialist teachers and associate staff.

Managing resources:
• Select, use and evaluate digital and text resources, equipment, ICT and other resources which enable learning objectives to be met.

Programme Development
• Advise and co-operate with the Head of Department, Head of Secondary, Co-Principals and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements.
• Take part as may be required in review, development and management activities relating to the curriculum, organization and pastoral functions of the school and of the Yew Chung Foundation.
• Review and evaluate methods of teaching and programmes of work.
• Participate in Foundation arrangements for further training and professional development.
Job Requirements: This position will be required to teach all art classes from Years 7-13, including YCIS curriculum framework for lower secondary years, and Cambridge IGCSE and IB Diploma for the upper secondary years.

• (minimum) Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area;
• Post Graduate Certificate/Diploma in Education in relevant subject;
• At least 2 years teaching experience as a qualified teacher;
• Skilled English both in writing and oral.
