Job Description: The Head of Pastoral & Community Development (CCDD) responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Pastoral Relationships
• Works closely with colleagues, parents, students and the wider foundation community to create an environment of pastoral care which reflects Christian principles and values
• Initiates programmes and activities, as well as supporting school programmes, that will create life-affirming (John 10:10) development for students and teachers alike.
• Promotes quality pastoral care for students by focusing on the whole child and engaging all members of the school community as providers of pastoral care.
• Is visible and approachable around the school and relates positively and openly to a variety of age groups
• In collaboration with the Student Support Services team, identifies “at risk” students for mentoring and counselling
• Forms pastoral relationships with teachers and staff to support their well-being and help them navigate possible challenges of the school / home environment
• Demonstrates a professional attitude to all matters relating to the role, in order to maintain confidentiality as necessary
• Demonstrates an ability to articulate and advocate on behalf of others
• Promotes and supports student character formation and character education opportunities in the school
Assemblies and Activities
• Participates in assemblies and enriches the quality of assemblies by drawing on Christian values and the creative gifts and resources within a school community
• Contributes to the school’s extra-curricular and enrichment programmes in order to create mentoring opportunities
• Contributes to the wider school development and growth
Service Learning (referred to across the Foundation as ‘Seeds of Hope’)
• Provides leadership in the development and implementation of the school’s service learning programmes, including year-level as well as school-wide curriculum and initiatives, to encourage service and support the values of the school
• Researches and implements best practices for service learning models which encourage students to develop a service-oriented mindset whilst also being sensitive to the specific needs of the populations served
• Develops student leadership capacity, decision-making capabilities and voice through service learning, environmental stewardship and community partnerships
• Engages the entire school community in the service learning programmes through meetings with colleagues, communication with parents and interaction with students.
• Cultivates and sustains parent and community partnerships in order to provide diverse service opportunities for all ages
• Has excellent planning and organisation skills and can perform administrative tasks, writing reports and articles as well as responding to enquiries when necessary
Professional Development
• Is a reflective learner who takes responsibility for professional development and progression, making full use of the opportunities and training provided by the school
• Reviews, promotes and implements enhanced pastoral practices by research into best practices and by seeking and using regular feedback from the school’s SLT, colleagues, parents and students (including alumni data) for ongoing improvement.
Job Requirements: General skills, qualifications and expectations:
• Supports the school’s Mission, Principles and Practices
• Holds the minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree and relevant teaching/counselling credentials
• Has a minimum of working 2 years full-time in a school setting and experience of leading Christian based programmes
• Has a genuine and personal Christian faith and a passion to support others regardless of their belief or non-belief
• Shows evidence of active participation in continuing professional development
• Has a positive, energetic, enthusiastic and solution focused outlook
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and understands the value of generating positive professional relationships and partnerships with colleagues, students, parents/families and the wider school community
• Can work in a highly collaborative learning and organisational culture which values a team approach when planning and providing learning experiences which are engaging, challenging, supportive and inclusive
• Has a commitment to operate successfully in a bilingual teaching environment in which important Chinese and Western cultural characteristics are understood and respected.
• Models the skills and attitudes of a global citizen by seeking to understand and respond positively to the cultural differences in value systems and societal norms of all members of our school community
• Has the ability to make good use of technology as a learning resource and for professional practice
• Supports and applies all school policies consistently
• Consults with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and/or Child Protection Team as appropriate and necessary in matters affecting the welfare and safeguarding of students.
• Has the ability to take initiative, problem-solve, persevere in difficult circumstances, and resolve conflicts.
