Job Description: |
General Purpose: The position is a key leadership position within the school for developing curriculum and learning across all Year levels and requires the person to work in close consultation with the Co-Principals, the Primary School Coordinator, Team leaders and staff. In particular, the Curriculum Coordinator is required to provide leadership for curriculum enhancement and renewal with a focus on Programming & Planning, Assessment and Reporting. The position builds on the basic roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Job Descriptions for Class teacher and Team leader and in accordance with the YCIS Philosophy and Objectives.
Duties: • Consolidate school curriculum initiatives particularly with: Planning approaches; Literacy and Mathematics Strategies; Reviewing curriculum requirements with teachers; Coordinating the development of: schemes of work; scope and sequence outlines; planning documentation • Promote Inquiry Learning across all Year Levels and support teachers with developing an understanding and implementing of teaching and learning methodologies to address: Multiple Intelligences; Thinking Strategies and Skills; Brain Based Learning; a Differentiated Curriculum; • Coordinate and supervise Assessment and Reporting practices, tasks and procedures; support staff to use the ‘PowerSchool’ programme effectively and efficiently • Analyze student data for: tracking of student improvement; identifying implications for the school • Establish and lead Committees (e.g. Literacy) to involve staff and enhance learning • Inform, help, advise and work with staff to increase their effectiveness at the classroom level • Review and re-design school policies and guidelines as a result of research and consultation • Arrange curriculum resources, develop resource collections in collaboration with Teacher Librarian • Manage curriculum budget lines and provide information for the allocation of resources • Organize and present information at: Staff Meetings; ‘In-service’ days; conferences • Be involved with regular teaching times, e.g. Release Team leader; teach an area- EAL; Focus Groups; extra-curricular activities; school events • Inform parents of curriculum expectations and developments (e.g. Workshops, newsletter articles) • Participate in ‘Leader’ meetings and ‘Team’ meetings • Member of the School Leadership Team (SLT) • Assume the role of Primary Coordinator when required • Provide timely and relevant information for Co-Principals and perform other duties as may be required by the Co-Principals
Lead in-service: • Take lead role in vertical articulation across Primary and ensure it links with lower Secondary • Coordinate the planning process including the development of Semester and Yearly Overviews across Primary • Organize logistics and administration of standardized assessment • Review standardized test results and make recommendations for future curriculum direction based on themes and trends emanating from the results • Coordinate a uniform approach to assessment across the Primary School • Coordinate and oversee the reporting processes – Student Led Conferences, Portfolios and School Reports • Oversee the implementation, training of staff and effective use of PowerSchool as the data management system for assessment and reporting for Primary • Take responsibility for the production of the Curriculum section of the Primary Newsletter • Develop and maintain Curriculum guidance documents for staff and parents • Present curriculum to parents through Parent Workshops • Develop and monitor curriculum review cycle • Maintain records of Staff Training and Development and assist staff in keeping their own records. • Be responsible, in conjunction with the Co-Principal, for the formal Appraisal of some staff members • Perform other duties as may be required by the Co-Principals
Skills/qualifications: • Native English speaker • Holder of Bachelor Degree and teaching certificate or license, with recognized qualification in primary education, child development or other related fields • Minimum 5 years of full-time teaching experience • Have an excellent understanding of ‘teaching and learning’, with a working knowledge of the national curriculum for England • Support Yew Chung's values • Have passion for teaching students • Sensitive and responsive to the needs of students and demonstrate commitment to their best interest • Excellent communicational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated commitment in teamwork • Previous experience of working with a diverse group of young children and/or implementation of inquiry based learning approach is a plus • Previous experience in Primary leadership role is a plus |
