General skills, qualifications and expectations:
• Bilingual (Chinese and English)
• Supports the school’s Mission, Principles and Practices
• Holds the minimum requirement of a Bachelor Degree plus relevant teaching and counselling credentials
• Shows evidence of active participation in continuing professional development
• Has a minimum of 2 years full-time teaching/counselling in a school setting
• Has experience working with students with diverse needs in a school setting
• Has a positive, energetic, enthusiastic and solution focused outlook
• Has a deep understanding of highly effective teaching and learning practices
• Has significant depth, breadth of knowledge, skills and understanding of their specific discipline and also a passion that inspires students to achieve at the highest level and colleagues to learn more
• Embraces innovative change in pedagogy
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and understands the value of generating positive professional relationships and partnerships with colleagues, students, parents/families and the wider school community
• Can work in a highly collaborative learning and organisational culture which values a team approach when planning and providing learning experiences which are engaging, challenging, supportive and inclusive
• Has the ability to set clear and appropriate targets for student attainment by making use of formative and summative assessment data
• Empowers students to take ownership of their learning and goal setting
• Can work closely with teachers and assistants in ensuring that suitably differentiated material and learning pathways are provided to challenge all students regardless of ability
• Ensures that formative and summative feedback to students is timely, well-targeted and constructive
• Is a reflective learner who takes responsibility for professional development and progression, making full use of the opportunities and training provided by the school

School Counsellor responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Provides a comprehensive counselling programme which promotes personal, social, emotional /mental health and academic development for all students through proactive learning activities and other services
• Collaborates with the school’s Child Protection Team to ensure school practices are in accordance with the expectations of the Child Protection Policy
• Participates in the review and evaluation of policies and procedures for the well-being of students to ensure they are effective
• Reviews new student records to identify students who need support
• Ensures colleagues are familiar with the student referral process
• Carries out classroom observation and scrutiny of work when required to identify and monitor students in need of support
• Participates in Student Support Team meetings to advocate for students and to offer professional advice
• Supports parents in gaining access to information on their child’s needs and offer guidance on and referrals to external agencies
• Liaises with external agencies to ensure the school is providing appropriate support for the students
• Writes and implements Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) as required in consultation with outside agencies, teachers, students and parents
• Writes and maintains reports on students requiring support
• Ensures all confidential information is kept in a safe and secure manner
• Plans, assesses and supports students’ learning and progress with regard to the school’s policies, monitoring and tracking data and curriculum requirements
• Provides professional guidance to colleagues, through written advice, meetings or training, to promote appropriate learning programmes for the mental health and well-being needs of students
• Provides prevention, intervention and crisis response services to students, their families and other stakeholders
• Manages and evaluates intervention programmes throughout the year
• Provides in-class and/or withdrawal support for students requiring counselling support
• Assists with modification of assessments where appropriate
• Provides examination/test assistance for students where needed
• Plans, implements and evaluates orientation/transition activities and programmes for students and families new to the school, those who are leaving and those left behind
• Train and support colleagues in the delivery of transition programmes and activities
• Liaises with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when students are transferring
• Promotes and supports student character formation and character education opportunities in the school
• Promotes and develops student leadership capacity, decision-making capabilities and voice
• Facilitates student peer mentoring programmes
• Manages appropriate resources to ensure they are used efficiently, effectively and safely
• Orders resources to support the curriculum plan and learning needs
• Reviews, promotes and implements enhanced counselling practices by doing research into best practices and by seeking and using regular feedback from the school’s SLT, colleagues, parents and students (including alumni data)
