Job Description: CHINESE TEACHER ASSISTANT

Duties and Responsibilities

Supporting the Students:
The major focus of this position is on working with students.

1. To aid the students to learn as effectively as possible, both in group situations and on their own by, for example:
● Clarifying and explaining instructions.
● Assisting students to use equipment and materials during lessons.
● Motivating and encouraging the student during lessons.
● Encouraging the use of Chinese in all situations under his/her care or supervision.

2. To promote student independence and foster self self-esteem:
● Helping students to concentrate on, and finish work set.
● Meeting physical needs as required whilst encouraging independence.

3. To establish a supportive relationship with all students.

Supporting the Teachers:

● Implement curriculum programmes by working with individual students and small groups.
● Assist in daily routines ie keeping classrooms and corridors tidy, in conjunction with teachers and students.
● Undertake playground supervisory duties, as part of a rota system and to assist with bus duties as required.
● Help prepare teaching aid material ie making booklets, homework packs, LO stickers.
● Photocopy worksheets/laminate teaching material.
● Attend year level excursions to help with the day’s programme.


Supporting the School:

● Undertake any duties reasonably expected of them by the Co-Principal or Coordinator.
● Cooperate with the other members of the school team, teachers, office staff, amahs.
● Attend any relevant training or professional development activities as required.
● Be aware of school policies and procedures through reading the Daily Bulletin, and other relevant information (e.g. Fire Evacuation procedures).
● Maintain punctuality at all times.
● Be aware of school rules and assist in their enforcement where appropriate.
● Support and promote the aims, ethos and policies of the school at all times.
● Adopt a consistent and positive approach.
● Respect the confidentiality of any document or information ordinarily available to teaching staff only.
Job Requirements: - Degree or Diploma in Education is an advantage
- Relevant class room teaching experience and the ability to work with children and adults
- Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese
- Internationally minded, respecting both Eastern and Western cultures
- Good inter-personal skills and teamwork
- Flexible and can work under pressure with tight deadlines
